Modelling hierarchical and modular complex networks: division and independence

چکیده
We introduce a growing network model which generates both modular and hierarchical structure in a self-organized way. To this end, we modify the Barabási–Albert model into the one evolving under the principles of division and independence as well as growth and preferential attachment (PA). A newly added vertex chooses one of the modules composed of existing vertices, and attaches edges to vertices belonging to that module following the PA rule. When the module size reaches a proper size, the module is divided into two, and a new module is created. The karate club network studied by Zachary is a simple version of the current model. We find that the model can reproduce both modular and hierarchical properties, characterized by the hierarchical clustering function of a vertex with degree k, CðkÞ; being in good agreement with empirical measurements for real-world networks. r 2005 Elsevier B.V. An Efficient Hierarchical Modulation based Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Transmission Scheme for Digital Video Broadcasting
Due to the increase of users the efficient usage of spectrum plays an important role in digital terrestrial television networks. In digital video broadcasting, local and global content are transmitted by single frequency network and multifrequency network respectively. Multifrequency network support transmission of global content and it consumes large spectrum. Similarly local content are well ...
متن کاملRainfall-runoff modelling using artificial neural networks (ANNs): modelling and understanding
In recent years, artificial neural networks (ANNs) have become one of the most promising tools in order to model complex hydrological processes such as the rainfall-runoff process. In many studies, ANNs have demonstrated superior results compared to alternative methods. ANNs are able to map underlying relationship between input and output data without prior understanding of the process under in...
متن کاملMonthly runoff forecasting by means of artificial neural networks (ANNs)
Over the last decade or so, artificial neural networks (ANNs) have become one of the most promising tools formodelling hydrological processes such as rainfall runoff processes. However, the employment of a single model doesnot seem to be an appropriate approach for modelling such a complex, nonlinear, and discontinuous process thatvaries in space and time. For this reason, this study aims at de...
متن کاملHierarchical Modularity in Human Brain Functional Networks
The idea that complex systems have a hierarchical modular organization originated in the early 1960s and has recently attracted fresh support from quantitative studies of large scale, real-life networks. Here we investigate the hierarchical modular (or "modules-within-modules") decomposition of human brain functional networks, measured using functional magnetic resonance imaging in 18 healthy v...
متن کاملHierarchical mutual information for the comparison of hierarchical community structures in complex networks
The quest for a quantitative characterization of community and modular structure of complex networks produced a variety of methods and algorithms to classify different networks. However, it is not clear if such methods provide consistent, robust, and meaningful results when considering hierarchies as a whole. Part of the problem is the lack of a similarity measure for the comparison of hierarch...
